Lucid took the EV industry by storm last month when it revealed the Air electric sedan. With its lightning-fast charging, impressive driving range of up to 517 miles, and potent performance, the Lucid Air is a very credible rival to the Tesla Model S and Porsche Taycan.

In its range-topping guise, the Lucid Air incorporates a dual-motor setup producing 1,080 horsepower, enabling the electric sedan to accelerate from 0-62 mph in 2.5 seconds and do the quarter-mile in 9.9 seconds. The range-topping, limited-run Air Dream Edition starts at $169,000, but there are more affordable options.

Lucid has announced the entry-level model will be called the Pure, which starts at $69,900 after US federal tax credit. At that price point, the Lucid Air Pure could be a serious threat to the Tesla Model S.

This variant is available with either rear- or all-wheel drive and packs an electric motor producing 480 hp. Lucid estimates the Air Pure will offer a range of 406 miles on a single charge. It's going to be a long wait for the most affordable version, however, as the Air Pure won't arrive until early 2022. The limited-edition Air Dream Edition is expected to launch nearly a year earlier in spring 2021, followed by the Air Grand Touring in summer 2021 and the Air Touring in late 2021.

In the meantime, you can already customize your own Air Pure and explore the available options using Lucid's advanced online configurator.

While other variants are available with a glass canopy roof, the Pure version is only offered with a metal roof to keep the price low. As standard, you get 19-inch aero wheels, or these can be upgraded to optional 20-inch ones. Available exterior color options include stellar white, infinite black, cosmos silver, quantum grey, and zenith red. Only one interior option is available for the base model: Mojave Purluxe, which combines black and graphite leather with a carbon oak trim.
