It's been a while since we've heard anything about Tesla's first model, the often troubled Roadster which, although far from perfect, still represented quite the improvement in EV technology. After all, it really only had to be better than the GM EV1 (that wasn't too hard). In any event, Tesla CEO Elon Musk has just stated that a "fairly exciting update" for the Roadster will be announced sometime this week. Musk initially said back in June that a Roadster update was in the cards, but various "crisis issues" were delaying things.

Designing rockets, an exploding rocket, and regular Model S updates presumably got in the way. So what's in store for the old Roadster? We honestly don't know, but it's fair to assume various range and reliability issues will be sorted out. Tesla (and Musk) is known for nice surprises so it ought to be pretty interesting. We'll know more imminently.
