The Mercedes S-Class has always been a technological marvel and the gentleman's choice when it comes to a luxurious and refined driving experience. The Mercedes-Maybach S-Class is an even more lavish attempt at luxury, still. But there will always be those that ruin a good thing by slapping a set of gaudy wheels and a ridiculous body kit on these sleek cars.

Enter Mansory, a tuning company renowned for making Mercedes-Benz cars look like they belong in a C-grade Men In Black movie. We've covered numerous Mansory builds, including a few S-Class examples. We have to admit: this isn't the worst build we've seen, but the excessive use of carbon fiber is a little too gaudy for something that is supposed to represent classy restraint.

Available on both the V8-powered S580 and V12-powered S680 variants, Mansory will give you a healthy performance boost.

With the help of a modified ECU and a performance exhaust system, this performance upgrade kit takes the S580's 4.0-liter turbocharged V8 engine to a mighty 591 hp and 605 lb-ft, up from the stock car's 496 hp and 516 lb-ft.

The 6.0-liter twin-turbocharged V12 engine in the S680 leaps from 621 hp to 709 hp and from 664 lb-ft to 737 lb-ft.

Mansory hasn't made claims as to how quick the tuned versions are, but we doubt you'll notice a difference from 0 to 60 mph compared to the stock times of 4.7 and 4.5 seconds, respectively.

Visually, we're unsure of where we stand on this, as the Maybach S-Class isn't very pretty, to begin with.

Instead of chrome, Mansory has gifted the Maybach S with a tonne of carbon fiber. Everything from the front air intakes and side sills to the exterior mirrors and rear apron is made of the lightweight element. The latter element is available in two designs. Both feature a prominent diffuser and allowance for quad trapezoidal exhaust finishers, but you can spec it to either have a central brake light of foregoing this for a slightly classier effect. A roof edge spoiler and trunk lid spoiler are also manufactured from the weave.

In keeping with the Maybach heritage, a two-tone paint finish looks discreet, and perhaps classier than stock.

Two wheel options are available for the Mercedes-Maybach S-Class by Mansory in either the brand's V.6 - six-spoke - or FS.23 designs - 23-spoke - with polished faces and high-gloss black inserts. These wheels are 22 inches in diameter and are shod in Continental SportContact 6 rubber measuring 265/30 up front and 305/25 at the rear.

Inside, the cabin can be tailored specifically to the desires of the client. Mansory assures us that every surface is completely rewrapped in the finest leather - available with 3D leather embossing - and every bit of stitching can be contrasted to your exact specification, including to match the exterior paintwork.

The steering wheel is a new leather sports item and joins the floor mats and aluminum pedals in sporting subtle Mansory badging.

Any hard trim elements can be swapped out for carbon fiber, too, which is perhaps too gaudy for our liking.
