Oscar-winning director Martin Scorsese, the man behind such classics as Taxi Driver, Raging Bull and Goodfellas, has announced his intent to produce a movie that will detail the rich and colorful history of Rolls-Royce. Scorsese will work alongside Richard Attenborough and Anthony Haas in telling the story of motoring pioneer Lord John Douglass-Scott Montagu and his interesting connection and friendship with Rolls-Royce founders Charles Rolls and Henry Royce.

While married to wife Cis, Montagu embarked on a secret love affair with his secretary Eleanor Velasco Thornton, who was the inspiration for the Spirit of Ecstasy mascot designed by British artist and sculptor Charles Sykes. In announcing the new movie, Scorsese said "When I read the story of Silver Ghost I was mesmerized. I immediately thought that this was a picture that had to be made." Silver Ghost will chronicle the origins of the Rolls-Royce Motor Company, with Christian Bale (of Batman fame) set to play Lord Montague. The film will be released sometime in 2013.
