You are probably aware that Audi has been the sponsor of several movies in the Marvel cinematic universe. Tony Stark, aka Iron Man, has often driven some variant of the Audi R8 except for select occasions when Acura decided to sponsor the Avengers films. In the latest Marvel movie, "Captain America Civil War," Robert Downey Jr.'s character drives an Audi R8 V10 Plus. Loren Angelo, director of marketing for Audi of America, says that using the R8 in the first Iron Man movie in 2008 helped launch the brand on an upward trajectory.

Tony Stark is a very technology-savvy individual who is self-made. Angelo says "that was a perfect fit for Audi because that's exactly what we've done with our brand." But now the Marvel universe has grown beyond blockbuster movies and is expanding into TV and Netflix. Hyundai has formed a two-year deal with Marvel and Netflix to have product placement rights for franchises like "Jessica Jones," "Daredevil," and the upcoming "Luke Cage" and "Iron Fist." If you watch "Daredevil," you may have already noticed the Genesis sedan and the Sonata Hybrid have popped up throughout the series. The Genesis has also been featured heavily in Jessica Jones as well. Will this work out for Hyundai?

Some Marvel movies have been criticized for being too much of a product placement bonanza. Acura shamelessly lined up several MDX SUVs on camera and Captain America Civil War shows off plenty of Audi cars as well. Hopefully Hyundai can strike a nice balance that will help the company get good publicity.
