Many will likely recall the Mastretta MXT, a Mexican-built two-seat sports car that our favorite Top Gear hosts just gushed over. Well, not exactly. Controversy over their commentary immediately followed. Anyway, it's just come out that the Mexican automaker is planning to reveal an updated version of the coupe later this year. Originally powered by Ford's 2.0-liter Duratec four-cylinder, the MXT will soon be powered by the Focus ST's 2.0-liter turbo four.

European sales, although very limited in number, are expected to increase next year. It's been on sale in the US since 2011. Obviously, it's also sold in Mexico and some other South American countries. Tipping the scale at less than 2,200 lbs, the new engine will give the MXT an output of around 252 horsepower. It currently has 246 hp. The car will also receive updated front-end styling and various other tweaks. Mastretta is also supposedly looking into getting involved in motorsport, perhaps the very best way to promote its car.
