Matt Farah of The Smoking Tire fame has finally achieved the million-mile mark in his 1996 Lexus LS400. Purchased back in 2014, the less-than-pristine LS400 had already accrued an impressive 897,000 miles and Matt decided that it was only right to get this regal old luxury barge to breach the magic million mile marker. In the end, it took him four years, two months and twenty days to achieve, with a little help from some friends along the way of course.

Instead of glossing over the car's various mechanical maladies, the LS400 has featured on a number of YouTube channels, Instagram accounts and Twitter feeds which kept track of its progress and condition as the miles piled on. A number of Matt's friends have assisted him in putting on those miles, but he was recently reunited with the car to put on those last few himself.

It is by no means some magical machine that cruised to this starship mileage without any issues, but according to Matt the engine has never been opened once. The 1UZ-FE 4.0-liter V8 as used in the first two generations of LS has always been regarded as an extremely reliable motor and this just goes to show how well-engineered they really are.

This particular version pumped out 260 horsepower when new although it would be interesting to see how many of those ponies have escaped in the intervening miles and years. Matt says that the four-speed auto transmission has been rebuilt three times but the body is all original as is most of the interior. "Everything else is a consumable at seven digits," he surmised. That is still impressive and we wouldn't be surprised if the Lexus keeps chugging along for a while yet.
