Mazda Announces New Small CUV To Be Called CX-5

Concepts

Mazda has just confirmed what we assumed for some time. The Japanese automaker's upcoming small CUV will officially be named the CX-5. A concept version was shown at this year's Geneva Motor Show featuring the brand's new "Minagi" design theme. Fitting in the slot below the CX-7 and larger CX-9 CUVs, the new car will feature Mazda's new SkyActiv technologies, including engines, transmissions, body and chassis.

It will replace the Ford Escape-based Tribute and is expected to go on sale sometime in 2012. The production version will make its official debut this September at the Frankfurt Motor Show.
