Mazda Motorsport's MX-5 Cup Racer Already Has A New Job

Beats the fleet and gets shipped to service at Laguna Seca.

A few months back, we showed you Mazda's upcoming MX-5 Cup racecar, based on the fourth-generation MX-5 and equipped with a treatment that would make it feel right at home on the track. But before the fleet of racers heads to the Global MX-5 championship for its debut race, one special example has been given a unique job: serving as the new pace car at the Laguna Seca Mazda Raceway. In addition to the racing buckets and roll cage, the pace car has been dressed in a special livery by Sticky Fingers design and equipped with emergency lighting.

Like the Global Cup racers, this pace car should enjoy additional modifications like enhanced wheel arches, aero tweaks and a lowered ride height. So far, Mazda has only released a single image of the pace car, but we expect it to be as awesome as the rest of the cars in the MX-5 Cup:
