The rumors have proven true.
For a while we thought it was going to be an Alfa Romeo, but then rumor had it that a new Fiat would be based off the new Mazda MX-5 Miata instead. The latter has turned out to be true as we can now confirm. Fiat Chrysler CEO, Sergio Marchionne, just announced at the official FCA press conference that Fiat’s new roadster will in fact be called the 124 Spider. And, in all likelihood, it’ll have its own unique attitude as opposed to being just a re-badged and re-skinned MX-5.
Marchionne didn’t provide any details regarding a potential launch date, but he did offer this: an Alfa Romeo roadster is still very much in the cards. Again, no timetable was given, but a new Alfa two-door, two-seater is essential to the brand’s revival. However, a new Alfa will be revealed on June 24th of this year, which will likely be the anticipated BMW 3 Series competitor. But hey, a new Fiat 124 Spider is coming. And yes, it’ll be sold in both the US and Europe.
