It always pains us when we see classic cars gathering dust in a barn after being abandoned for years. Or, in this case, left to rot at the bottom of a river. Adventures with Purpose, a YouTube channel that specializes in recovering cars submerged in water, recently received a tip-off about a girl who dumped her boyfriend's truck in a river 20 years ago after he cheated on her.

Their team of scuba divers was sent to a river in Portland, Oregon to try and recover it - but what they discovered will make car enthusiasts weep. Amazingly, they found six vehicles submerged underwater, including a mangled Mazda RX-7 and a 1973 Ford Mustang Mach 1.

After being submerged in the muddy water for so long, it's safe to say the Mazda RX-7 has seen better days. The bodywork is caked in mud, the windshield is shattered, and roof is caved in. Judging from the condition, this Mazda RX-7 has been rotting underwater for several years. Sad.

But with the right tools and some dedication, the Japanese sports car could be salvageable if there's somebody out there willing to restore it. The Mazda RX-7 gets successfully pulled out of the river and loaded onto a flatbed truck, so it can hopefully be brought back to its former glory.

As well as the Mazda RX-7 and Ford Mustang Mach 1, the diving team also discovered a Chevrolet LUV pickup, which could belong to the cheating boyfriend. The team also discover a few more trucks sunk at the bottom of the murky river, but they are difficult to identify. One of them appears to be missing a cab roof.

Unfortunately, we don't get to see the Ford Mustang Mach 1 get pulled out of the water to find out what condition it's in after being submerged underwater. Exactly why these six classic cars were dumped in a river isn't known either. They could have been involved in accidents or stolen, but we'll likely never know.
