MB CLA45 AMG: Turbo Four Ain't All That Bad

But for nearly $60,000 is it even worth it?

We’re currently entering a new era for high-performance coupes and sedans. German automakers such as Mercedes-Benz and its AMG performance division have been known to build naturally aspirated V8s that pack plenty of horsepower, but don’t exactly return the best fuel economy. To adapt to today’s reality of government fuel emissions regulations, changes need to be made to the concept of a rear-drive, V8-powered premium sport sedan.

Enter the new CLA45 AMG, which comes powered by a turbocharged four-pot that delivers 355 hp and 332 lb-ft of torque. It looks and sounds fantastic, but there’s a downside: it costs a hefty $60,000. Is its performance-to-dollar ratio worth it? Motor Trend’s Carlos Lago gets behind the wheel to find out.
