McLaren Insists P1 Designed by Air

According to McLaren, the P1’s awesome performance capabilities are a result of its cutting-edge aerodynamics. We suspect its 900-hp powertrain might help a bit too.

Although theMcLaren P1 combines a 3.8-liter twin-turbo V8 with an electric motor to producemore than 900 horsepower, the British supercar maker wants the world toknow that the key to the performance of its flagship is aerodynamics. Assuch, it is embarking on a two-part series to tell the story behind the designof the hypercar. “Designed byAir” previews the series, which will demonstrate how the carwas crafted by airflow and conclude with the P1 in the wind tunnel, highlighting its state-of-the art aerodynamics.

The series will also detail the P1's finely honed aerodynamic features cloaking the carbon-fiber chassis, and reveal an interactive 3D model of the supercar.
