McLaren Plots 12C-Based 458 Speciale Rival

Styling to be influenced by P1 with power coming from a 650-hp version of the 12C’s twin-turbo engine.

This year, McLaren will launch an enhanced variant of the 12C, which will sit above the supercar as a stand-alone model. That’s according to a company source that told British publication Autocar the car would be based around the 12C’s carbon-fiber Monocell. Power is said to come from a modified version of the 3.8-liter twin-turbo V8 tuned to around 650 horsepower.

Performance will exceed that of the Ferrari 458 Speciale, while styling will be heavily influenced by the P1 to take advantage of its stunning aerodynamics. In fact, the P1’s front end is set to become a feature on all future McLaren cars. Carbon-ceramic brakes will come as standard along with other performance-oriented modifications and an uprated interior.
