Limited to 15 units for 2015; existing 12C GT3 owners to be offered upgrades.
Props to those who guessed that last week’s teaser image was of the McLaren 650S GT3. Unveiled today at the Goodwood FOS, the track-only GT3 variant, based on the road-going 650S Coupe, comes sporting an aggressive carbon-fiber body kit, a fixed carbon-fiber rear wing and rear splitter. Other upgrades include updated suspension, 52-mm wider tracks, newly designed 18-inch eight-spoke alloys housing newly-developed brakes, and a new lighter FIA-approved rollcage that provides more head and legroom than its predecessor.
A unique 650S GT3 steering wheel was inspired by the McLaren Mercedes F1 car, while a new McLaren GT-developed race seat comes with a six-point race harness. Under the hood, the 12C GT3’s race-prepared 3.8-liter twin-turbo V8 carries over with 500 hp, which will be kept cool thanks to larger air intakes up front. Those lucky enough to own a 12C GT3 will be able to upgrade their rides to the 650S GT3 spec. McLaren plans to manufacture and deliver 15 units of 650S GT3, each priced at £330,000 before tax, and provide 15 upgrade packages.
