The McLaren Speedtail originally went on sale for over $2 million, but this build slot costs a lot more than that.
Whenever a supercar is announced that will be produced in very limited numbers, you can guarantee there will always be someone who buys a build slot with the sole intention of flipping it for a tidy profit to someone with more money than sense. We saw this happen to the Ferrari SF90 Stradale and Koenigsegg Jesko recently, and now a build slot for the McLaren Speedtail is being sold online for an insane amount of money.
McLaren unveiled the Speedtail last October, confirming that only 106 examples of the luxury grand tourer will ever be made. Unsurprisingly, every example had already been sold when the car was unveiled, despite the eye-watering $2.17 million price tag. Customer deliveries won't begin until 2020, but if you want to reserve an allocation Mobile currently has a McLaren Speedtial build slot for sale.
Listed for sale by a used car dealer in Dubai, the McLaren Speedtail build slot is being sold for staggering €4,950,000 ($5,468,290)– that's more than double the car's original value. Unfortunately, the seller doesn't say when the Speedtail will be delivered. If you happen to have over $5 million lying around and missed out on the initial allocation, you may want to contact McLaren to check the legitimacy of the listing.
Essentially a spiritual successor to the iconic McLaren F1, the McLaren Speedtail adopts a central driving position and has room for two additional passengers behind the driver. Thanks to its striking aero-enhancing shape that looks like a teardrop when viewed from above and extensive use of carbon fiber keeping the car light, McLaren claims the Speedtail is the most aero-drag efficient McLaren road car ever.
It's also the fastest and most powerful McLaren road car ever, with a hybrid powertrain that develops a combined 1,035 horsepower enabling the hyper GT to accelerate from 0-182 mph in just 12.8 seconds – that's almost four seconds faster than the McLaren P1.
