A 21-year-old man is now facing charges in Michigan for crashing his Chevrolet Corvette Z06 last May that left him and his passenger injured. Jiefu Gong is now facing a felony charge of reckless driving that caused serious impairment of bodily function, according to court records, first obtained by mlive.com. If convicted of the single felony charge, Gong faces up to five years in prison and/or a $1,000 to $5,000 fine. What led to this?

Last May 27, Gong and a 17-year-old girl from Ann Arbor, Michigan were in his Corvette Z06 as they travelled along Huron River Drive in Scio Township. Because he drove too fast around a tight turn, the car struck a tree. This wasn't just a minor bump. On the contrary, the Z06 was completely mangled around a tree. Parts were everywhere. It took local firefighters quite some time to extract both Gong and his passenger from the mess. Miraculously, neither was killed, but both suffered broken bones. Gong will appear in a court preliminary hearing later this week and will likely soon be sentenced.

This all just goes to show that inexperience and immaturity is a poisonous mixture when it comes to driving, and in this case, buying expensive high-performance cars. The Corvette Z06, as we all know, is not something to be taken lightly. Until the ZR1 debuts, the Z06 is the most potent Corvette you can buy. There are dangerous consequences when it's not treated with proper respect. Just ask Gong. Photos courtesy of mlive.com/Ann Arbor News.
