Meet The Bentley Mulliner GT: The Most Luxurious Continental Yet

Reveal / 2 Comments

Bentley describes it as the "most luxurious member of the Continental range."

It's been quite a busy month for Bentley. Not long after lifting the lid on the sharper and more dynamic Continental GT S (pictured far below), the luxury brand revealed the equally athletic Flying Spur S. Set to make a public debut at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, the sporting pair will be joined by the all-new Continental GT Mulliner, a grand tourer described as "the fastest, most dynamic and most luxurious member of the Continental range."

The pinnacle of all things Bentley gains motivation from the same 6.0-liter twin-turbocharged W12 engine that does duty in the GT Speed. This means lofty performance figures of 650 horsepower and 664 lb-ft of torque and a 0 to 60 mph sprint of just 3.5 seconds. Impressively, the big luxury bruiser can reach a maximum speed of 208 mph.

Despite the phenomenal performance on hand, the Continental GT places an emphasis on luxury. Courtesy of Bentley's Mulliner division, the grand tourer takes opulence to an entirely new level.

At first glance, there aren't many ways to tell the Continental GT Mulliner apart from its lesser siblings. Look closely, however, and you'll note the grand 'Double Diamond' matrix grille. The pattern is repeated on the front fender vents, which also wear subtle Mulliner badging.

Depending on your tastes, you could opt for a more traditional bright chrome finish or a sportier gloss black look, courtesy of the Mulliner Blackline Specification. Additional touches include the bespoke mirror caps (available in satin silver or black), classy Mulliner-specific puddle lamps, and door sills with illuminated Mulliner logos.

Seen here with a subtle black finish, the 22-inch wheels are a design exclusive to Mulliner and, like contemporary Rolls-Royce models, feature self-leveling center badging that keeps the Bentley badge level, even when on the move.

Open the heavy doors and you'll be greeted by an elegant cabin. As standard, the Mulliner Driving Specification introduces the desirable "Diamond in Diamond" interior quilting, which is now available with contrast or accent stitching. Bentley says each diamond contains 712 individual stitches, with a total of nearly 400,000 stitches required for this exquisite finish.

There are plenty of details to delight even the most discerning buyer. The floor mats, for example, boast micro-piping to match the selected color theme while the headrests receive embroidered Mulliner logos. Even the roof lining is trimmed with indented leather unless you go for the fixed glass roof - Continental GT Mulliner models specified with this receive a smooth hide finish.

The interior has been blessed with flawless Grand Black walnut veneer inlays (there are 88 additional options), which are uplifted by the well-crafted diamond milled technical finish. This elegant design is the result of precision machining which, says Bentley, results in the "perfect pattern of facets." Naturally, a brushed-metal Breitling clock adorns the decadent facia.

Even the digital instrumentation receives the Mulliner touch. Through the use of skeuomorphic design, Bentley has managed to replicate the high-class finish of the Breitling timepiece on the virtual dials. Being a Bentley by Mulliner, the plush grand tourer affords customers plenty of choice.

Continental GT Mulliner buyers can wade through the endless upholstery colors, veneers, and stitching options. But an exclusive three-way color split allows for a new primary and secondary hide combo, uplifted by a third color which presents as a "flowing design line." Eight unique blends are available and set the Mulliner variant even further apart.

Courtesy of active air suspension (with adaptive damping) the ride quality is as smooth as the interior upholstery, but the setup also allows the luxurious brute to thunder down a twisty road at a moment's notice. A V8-engined model is also available. The new Continental GT Mulliner will make its debut at the 2022 Goodwood Festival of Speed this weekend, where it will assume its position at the top of the Bentley range.
