There are way too many people out there with plenty of cash and not enough restraint - or taste, for that matter. These people can create the cars of their dreams, and as long as you customize the finishes and leave the designers to the designing, the results can be pretty spectacular. Then again, there are cars that look even more amazing with a total styling overhaul. Sadly, the same can't be said for a recent Smart build, and it certainly does not apply to the latest Mercedes-AMG one-of-one monstrosity. Not only does it have a hilariously silly name, but it looks utterly ghastly. BMW fanboys and defenders of Bavarian design, it's finally time to hurl some insults back at Mercedes lovers.

The car is the vision of former Black Eyed Peas frontman, will.i.am, who has often offended those with fully-functioning eyesight with his, er, "unique" cars, but this is possibly the most egregious. Called the WILL.I.AMG, the Mercedes-built car will make its public debut at this weekend's Miami Grand Prix, so Merc fans are going to have a bad weekend on all fronts. "Under strict secrecy, "The Flip," an automotive masterpiece with an expressive design and a far-reaching message, has been created" as "a visible symbol of the goals of Mercedes-AMG and will.i.am to boldly drive forward new ideas, push boundaries, and dare to do the impossible," says Mercedes. In all fairness, the intentions here are good, as "The Flip - Innovation for Purpose" is a project with the mission of giving more students from disadvantaged communities access to science, technology, engineering, arts, and math education.

"I grew up in a ghetto," explains the artist. "I grew up with hip-hop. I watched legendary hip-hop artists rap about Mercedes, so it was always a dream to own a Mercedes. For a lot of inner-city kids, owning a Mercedes is a symbol of progress and advancing out of struggle. Now I've reached my goal and pushed even higher by reimagining and creating my own vision of an AMG model. But I didn't touch the engine, because AMG really does make the best engines. The story of the founders of AMG truly inspires me and it is energizing to collaborate with like-minded people who also seek continuous improvement." The engine he refers to is the 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 that does duty in a number of Mercedes-AMG products, but what did it come from in this case?

Although its design is clearly inspired by that of the iconic G-Class, the car you see here is based upon the Mercedes AMG GT 4-Door Coupe. The front end has been heavily revised and features a totally new fascia with will.i.am's take on the three-pointed star. Carbon fiber features in hood vents that seemingly attempt to call to mind old SL roadsters. The four-door version of a two-door car was returned to its coupe body style, but now, suicide doors are fitted. On the roof, glass panels will let light in while new spoilers, vents, and Maybach-style monoblock wheels complete the look.
