This has some potential.
The Toyota Yaris may be officially dead in the US, but luckily, there's a new Yaris Cross model overseas keeping the name alive that looks like a great little crossover. Despite borrowing styling cues from the awesome GR Yaris, the Yaris Cross has room for more extreme styling, and both of Toyota's in-house tuners - TRD and Modellista - have decided to take advantage of the potential this new crossover has with some interesting new body kits.
The first is from TRD and is styled in such a way that you'd expect it to be prepped for an autocross or rally event. Subtlety is certainly not high on the agenda here.
What jumps out at you first is the red makeup applied to the new mudflaps, and this small change makes arguably the biggest difference, really ramming home the idea that this thing could look at home on a rally stage. There's a red accent in the door trims too, along with black surrounds for the front LED running lights. These are pretty cool; look closer and you'll notice that they protrude from the bodywork slightly for more aggression. At the back, a twin-exit exhaust is the only obvious change, but that's okay considering the Yaris Cross already has a cool little roof spoiler and large false diffuser.
Modellista's changes to the crossover are a little more conventional, yet still full of Japanese flair. Inside, chrome and Bordeaux red accents, extra lighting for the center console, and unique scuff plates are joined by a wooden luggage deck. A new front grille surround combines with body-color wheel arch moldings and new mirror housings, while a front lip extension, new side skirts, and a sporty new roof spoiler complete the look.
New wheels and two rear bumper options are also available, one of which features dual-exit exhaust tips - although these look more aesthetic than functional. This is kinda okay since neither kit comes with a power bump, but hopefully, both tuners have something even more special planned for the new Toyota 86.
