FCA has figured out that its truck and SUV buyers really like a good special edition. Jeep churns out a new special edition every few months, and Ram is no exception. Meet the all-new Ram Rebel Black special edition. As its name suggests, it is black, although you can actually order this special edition off-roader in any exterior color you'd like. The "Black" part refers to the wheels, brush guard and interior, all of which are blacked out to create a truly menacing look.

But don't take our word for it. Here's Jim Morrison, head of Ram in North America and not front man for The Doors, describing what makes the Ram Rebel Black special.

Mike Manley, head of both Ram and Jeep, touted the new special edition and the potential it has to bring further attention to the brand. "Adding the Rebel Black package to an already aggressive off-road truck will continue feeding the momentum Rebel is creating for the Ram Truck brand. The Ram Rebel is unique in the full-size truck segment with 33-inch off-road tires, air suspension and custom interior details," he said. So, what do you think? In our opinion this special edition is a bit weak, especially given the fact that the Rebel Mojave Sand was the first Rebel to feature an all-black interior. That being said we wouldn't mind seeing those black wheels offered as an optional extra.

If we had to pick a Ram Rebel special edition to buy it'd be the one given the Mopar treatment last year. However, a Rebel Black with a 5.7-liter HEMI V8 making 395 hp and 410 lb-ft of torque doesn't sound all that bad.The good news is that this appearance package isn't incredibly expensive. The Rebel bases at $43,320. The Rebel Black checks in at $45,590. The truck will make its official debut at the 2017 Detroit Auto Show and will be available for purchase starting March 2017. Expect a few more special editions this year, none of which will be able to hold a candle to the awesome Rebel TRX concept. Build that and then you'll blow us away, FCA.
