AMG GT R Roadster

We've been loving the new resurgence of retro-inspired speedsters including the Aston Martin V12 Speedster, McLaren Elva and Ferrari Monza SP1 and SP2. Mercedes-AMG has yet to jump on the speedster bandwagon, so German car collector Roland A. Bussink commissioned HWA AG to create the world's first Mercedes-AMG GT R speedster- and the result is spectacular.

If you're unfamiliar with HWA AG, the company was founded by Hans-Werner Aufrecht, one of the founders of AMG, and is also responsible for the insane 838-horsepower 6.0-liter naturally-aspirated V12 engine that powers the Pagani Huyara R. Unveiled at the 2021 Monaco Grand Prix, this bespoke creation is called Bussink GT R SpeedLegend.

This may not be an official Mercedes-AMG creation, but HWA AG's connection with AMG makes it the next best thing. Inspired by the Mercedes-McLaren SLR Stirling Moss speedster and Mercedes Formula 1 cars, the Bussink GT R SpeedLegend is limited to just five examples.

One of the most striking design features is the "Speedbow." Akin to the halo of a modern Formula 1 car, the Speedbow extends from the hood to the headrests and is made of carbon fiber. As well as giving the Speedster a striking appearance, it helps improve the structural rigidity after removing the roof. Prominent carbon fiber louvers have also been added to the front fenders.

Compared to the regular Mercedes-AMG GT R Roadster, the Bussink GT R SpeedLegend is 200 pounds lighter. As standard, the AMG GT R Roadster's 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V8 produces 577 hp and 516 lb-ft of torque. You can keep the powertrain stock, or HWA AG can uprate it to 850 hp. This makes it even more powerful than the Aston Martin V12 Speedster and McLaren Elva, which generate 700 hp and 803 hp respectively.

No performance specifications have been released, but it should be quicker off the line than the standard AMG GT R Roadster, which will do the 0-60 mph sprint in 3.5 seconds. Pricing details are being kept under wraps, but we wouldn't be surprised if the price tag has seven figures considering this bespoke beauty's exclusivity. Despite this, all five cars planned for production have already been sold.
