Mercedes looks to have found the sweet spot with the E43.
Mercedes' aggressive AMG expansion continues unabated, with the 2016 New York Auto Show the latest stage to put Affalterbach on the map. Following yesterday's world debut of the C63 Cabrio comes the unveiling of the Mercedes-AMG E43. Hotter than the 241-hp E300 but still in the shadow of the upcoming E63 AMG, the E43 AMG makes for a decent middle ground option with power coming from a 396-hp 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6.
As reported when the hi-po sedan made its online reveal, the E43 will send power to all four wheels via a nine-speed auto, helping it to reach 60 mph in 4.5 seconds. 19-inch rims, a chrome quad exhaust, silver chrome diffuser, sports seats, a flat-bottomed steering wheel and red seat belts and accents, are all touches to help differentiate the E43 from the stock E Class. And we think it looks like one mean motor. Expect the latest member of the burgeoning AMG family hit US dealers early 2017.
