This month, the Mercedes-AMG G-Wagen will come to life in a radically new form, as a speed boat inspired by the G-Wagen's iconic, rugged design bows at the Miami Boat Show on Thursday, February 13th. The boat is the work of Cigarette Racing Team - an outfit that specializes in turning out some of the best high-performance power boats in the world - and it was teased in a social media post on Sunday.

Cigarette Racing Team has a long history of collaboration with Mercedes-AMG, spawning a number of AMG-inspired high-speed powerboats named or styled in honor of car models like the SLS AMG and the AMG GT R coupe.

Of course, you'll notice something about those car models: they're sleek, low-slung thoroughbreds that obviously lend themselves well to serving as inspiration for speed boats. The G-wagen, by contrast, is a blocky, square-jawed off-roader, making it a much less obvious choice for a speed boat tie-in. We can't wait to see how Cigarette Racing Team has managed to make it work.

Cigarette Racing Team takes its name from the so-called "cigarette boat" - a type of high-performance speed boat with its origins in the 1960s. This style of boat is so-named for its having evolved from a championship-winning Don Aronow-designed racing boat christened "The Cigarette".

This year's Miami International Boat Show will run from February 13th through the 17th. The annual exhibition, first held way back in 1969, is a huge event in the world of recreational boating, drawing crowds in excess of 100,000 every year with more than a thousand exhibitors.

Considering the sort of personal wealth that most often accompanies speed boat ownership, we have little doubt that more than a few Miami International Boat Show attendees will in fact be Mercedes G-Wagen drivers. Cigarette Racing Team sure seems to know its target audience.
