Mercedes-AMG GT 43 And GT 53 Refreshed With More Style And Luxury

It's subtle, but these changes should keep the sleek four-door coupe feeling fresh.

Mercedes-Benz has introduced new updates to the six-cylinder models of the AMG GT 4-Door, namely the GT 43 and GT 53 derivatives. The Stuttgart-based automaker has revealed several subtle facelifts this year across its lineup, and the svelte four-door coupe is no different.

While it's possible that the changes mentioned here for Germany may not all apply to US-spec models, we expect our version to be much the same.

Up front, you'll spot the new front bumper which gains inspiration from the more powerful V8 models. The center air intake appears larger than before and is flanked by the two outer intakes that lend the six-cylinder derivatives more aggression. Mercedes says the overall look emulates a "jet-wing profile," and claims the opening allows air to flow directly to the brakes and coolers.

The manufacturer also offers a V8 Styling Package, which borrows styling elements from the now-discontinued AMG GT Black Series. This provides a larger radiator grille, wider air intake, and air deflectors on the outer parts of the bumper.

The differences are obvious. The base model receives a front splitter in high-gloss chrome as part of the Chrome Package. Opt for the Carbon Fiber package, however, and these bits of trim are replaced with the sporty material.

The V8 Styling Package may sound desirable, but the black trim surrounding the grille gives the AMG GT 4-Door a slightly awkward appearance, almost as if the vehicle is donning a fake mustache. Add the Aerodynamic Package to this styling treatment, and the front splitter and flics receive a unique look.

Aside from that, it appears the rest of the exterior hasn't been revised. Customers can, however, specify a new color called Opalite White Metallic. Wheel options remain unchanged, but we expect Mercedes to introduce a more substantial update in the coming years.

Step inside, and you'll find that the snug cabin has also received subtle updates.

The MBUX infotainment system has been updated and sports a fresh-looking interface, along with AMG-specific displays. Naturally, this is customizable. Mercedes has also blessed both the GT 43 and GT 53 with a standard electric sunroof, along with the option of a wireless charging pad for the rear seats.

Additionally, if you select the optional Burmester surround sound or 3D surround sound systems, Dolby Atmos is now included as standard.

Sadly, Mercedes-AMG hasn't improved the twin-turbocharged six-cylinder engines. As such, the 43 variant still produces 362 horsepower and 369 lb-ft of torque. As a reminder, this motor benefits from an electric compressor that contributes an additional 21 horses and 184 lb-ft. If you want more power, the GT 53 proffers 429 hp and 384 lb-ft, and receives the same electrified boost as the 43.

Pricing for the refreshed models is yet to be announced, but we anticipate the updated GT 4-Door will be priced similarly to the existing model, which has a starting MSRP of $92,500 before options.
