AMG boss Tobias Moers has already confirmed the AMG GT will finally be getting the Black Series treatment in 2020. Since the GT has been on sale for six years now, the new Black Series will likely be the model's swan song before its successor eventually arrives. The rumor mill also suggests that a track-focused Clubsport package is being developed, but our spies believe these latest photos show an early prototype of the Black Series flexing its muscles at the Nurburgring since it has already been confirmed for 2020.

The prototype was spotted sporting some upgraded aero, such as an aggressive-looking front bumper, prominent fins on the front fenders, and a new exhaust system with dual tips. The test driver certainly seems to be pushing the car hard at the Green Hell too, judging from the glowing brakes.

Being the flagship model in the AMG GT range, the new Black Series will, of course, be more powerful than the current GT R range-topper, which is powered by a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 that delivers 577 horsepower. Expect that figure to increase to at least 600 hp in the new Black Series.

As well as more power, AMG will also put the GT Black Series on a carbon fiber diet to make it significantly lighter and more satisfying to drive than the GT R. This has the potential to be one of the best AMG cars ever made, so we're hoping to see it finally break cover at one of the major auto shows next year.
