Mercedes-AMG GT 63 Coupe

We already had very high expectations for the Porsche 911 GT3 RS-rivaling Mercedes AMG GT R, but we never expected it to be quite this quick. Auto Sport has posted an on-board video of the beastly Merc being put through its paces around the Nurburgring in the hands of its talented test driver Christian Gebhardt, where it posted a frankly incredible lap time of 7:10.92. For a RWD car, that's mightily impressive.

Appropriately, the model used was donning its distinctive 'AMG Green Hell Magno' paint job for its lap around the Ring, where the car spent most of its time in development. To put this achievement into context, this means the AMG GT R has trounced the likes of the 620 hp Camaro ZL1, which set a time of 7:29.6, by quite a margin.

It's also beaten the Dodge Viper ACR's time of 7:12.13, the 7:21.63 time set by the Ferrari 488 GTB and the Lexus LFA Nurburgring Pack's time of 7:14.64. The hardcore track car produces 577 hp and 516 lb-ft of torque thanks to its twin-turbocharged, 4.0-liter V8 engine which is considerably more than the 503 hp and 479 lb-ft of torque you get in the GT S. It will also run rings around the standard AMG GT, which produces 456 hp and 443 lb-ft of torque. Despite all that power, the AMG GT R stays firmly planted, making 342 pounds of downforce more than the standard AMG GT. After that blistering performance on the world's most notorious racetrack, this is now a car that's firmly on our radar.
