Mercedes-AMG Squeezes More Power Out Of Its Entry-Level Models

Entry-level AMG models can now hit a whopping 167 mph.

Mercedes-Benz has been on a roll with its new entry-level models. For 2016, the hopped-UP versions of the Mercedes-AMG CLA45 AMG and GLA45 receive a 20-hp boost, which brings power up to 375 hp. The increase in power equates to faster 0-60 mph times and the ability to beat much more expensive vehicles easier. With slight transmission tweaks, the CLA45 AMG can now get to 60 mph in 4.1 seconds, while the GLA45 AMG does the same sprint in 4.3 seconds.

On the outside, the new powerhouses feature a crucial addition to any high-performance vehicle - a "TURBO" badge. Surprisingly, Mercedes-AMG did not release a statement on how much power the badges add, but they definitely help in getting the extra 20 hp out of the engines. There’s no word on how much the 2016 CLA45 AMG and GLA45 AMG will cost, but it’ll probably hover around the current price of $49,000. Other changes for the vehicle include AMG’s new Dynamic Select system and a Driver’s Package that features a new "Race" mode, as well as a higher top speed of 167 mph.
