The four-door coupe's avant-garde sporty design will be on show in LA and then Beijing.
Following some leaked photos yesterday, Mercedes was quick to officially reveal the Concept Style Coupe that is set to debut at the Beijing Motor Show on 23 April after making a brief appearance at the Avant/Garde Diaries event in LA the 20th. Technical highlights of the new concept include a striking headlamp design with innovative indicators, a new 211hp four-cylinder turbocharged gasoline engine, the AWD 4MATIC system and a 7G-DCT dual clutch automatic transmission.
"The Concept Style Coupé is expressive and powerful in its design", said Dr Dieter Zetsche, Chairman of the Board of Management of Daimler AG and Head of Mercedes-Benz Cars. "This is the model against which sporty vehicles in the executive segment will have to measure themselves in future. "The almost production-standard Concept Style Coupé sets a new benchmark for avantgarde design in the executive segment", emphasised Gorden Wagener, Head of Design at Mercedes-Benz. "Its breathtaking proportions, sinewy fluid surfaces and sculptural lines are the physical expression of our dynamic design idiom."
Its diamond-look grille continues the design cues of the Concept A-Class, while the headlamps shine red in standby mode and when activated individual elements light up in a 'Mexican wave' effect. Three prominent lines give the concept's exterior a ripple-effect design, complemented by 20-inch turbine-design alloys with perforated pins on the spokes. It also has no B-pillar and features frameless side windows. Other exterior highlights include a large panoramic roof, separated from the rear windscreen by a metal rib, metallic-red colored taillights, an integrated dual-flow exhaust system and narrow rear diffuser.
The interior is trimmed in carbon-fiber, white nubuck leather, Alcantara and suede, and colored in a mix of light grey and anthracite with funky neon green piping and topstitching on the instrument panel, steering wheel, and seat & door center panels.
Four integral seats with integrated head restraints from the new A-Class Sport have been used, while the jet engine-inspired air vents are backlit and change color with the temperature, so blue when cold, red when warm and fluorescent yellow otherwise.
