EQE SUV

Last month, Mercedes revealed the AMG EQE, a high-performance electric sedan with luxury and style to boot. This followed from the reveal of the regular EQE sedan in September last year, but because Mercedes has a confusing naming strategy at the moment, there's going to be an EQE SUV too. We saw spy shots of the AMG variant of the electric SUV last month, and now we have our first look at an EQE SUV with no camouflage. Unfortunately, our photographers didn't get to take a great number of detailed shots, but we still get a pretty good idea of what to expect in terms of styling.

As the images reveal, the EQE SUV in question has clearly been evaluated extensively, since there are various dents and other forms of damage on the car. The front blanking plate where a grille would typically go seems to have been broken, and the front bumper may have been replaced. But that actually suits us in this case as it confirms that the styling of the SUV variant of the EQE will closely follow that of the sedan. The rounded look that is evident in Merc's other EQ models is apparent here too, and it's about as far away as you can get from a boxy G-Class. The EQE SUV's rear bumper isn't clear, but we're sure that this won't be a radical departure from existing Mercedes SUV designs - we just won't see tailpipes.

At the A-pillar, the EQE badge is present, and at the rear full-width LED taillights will feature. Moving on to less important details, we find ourselves staring at a terracotta/orange hue. If you're worried about this horrendous color being the paint finish of choice for the launch car, fear not. This is a vinyl wrap, which means it's unlikely to be a paint option. How do we know? Well, all the trim elements and even the window surrounds and pillars are finished in this color, so it's only temporary. That vivid yellow on the rear end, however, is not far off what we've seen on a number of AMG products. We'll get more details closer to a launch at the end of this year.
