Originally introduced in 1997, the M-Class is currently in its fifth model year of its second generation. While that may seem slightly outdated, the M-Class is still competitive in its segment. It offers a wide variety of engine options: a 3.0 liter V6 turbo-diesel with 210 horsepower, a 3.5 liter V6 electric/hybrid with 268 horsepower. Not one, but two V8 options are also available: a 5.5 liter with 382 horsepower and a 6.2 liter with 503 horsepower.

There is a single transmission offered: 7-speed automatic. Classified as a mid-size SUV, it's not a very capable off-roader nor is it very adequate as a people hauler, as it can seat only five passengers. If you need space and a better off road vehicle, then consider the full-size GL-Class. Pricing starts at $46,500 and tops off at around $91,900 of the fully-loaded ML63 AMG with 503 horsepower.
