Since launching its Instagram channel in March 2012, Mercedes-Benz has gone from strength to strength. With a fan base of over 35 million and counting, a recent study by T4Media shows that Mercedes-Benz has just breached 1-billion likes on Instagram.

This makes them the first of the "Interbrand Best Global Brands 2018" to do so and shows how successful their social media presence has been for the brand. To celebrate this impressive milestone, Mercedes-Benz has created a special website that features the very best content that has been posted over the years.

In addition, the Mercedes-Benz Museum in Stuttgart will also be running an exhibition from the January 5 to 31 showcasing around 20 large prints from the world of Instagram.

The study shows that the @mercedesbenz channel gets around 27.6 million likes each month. While likes are just one aspect of gauging social media effectiveness, the figures are very impressive indeed and runners-up BMW is currently just above the 700-million mark.

"Our systematic multi-channel strategy is again bringing us success", says Natanael Sijanta, Head of Marketing Communication at Mercedes-Benz. "To impress and entertain our followers we focus on a mix of brand and user-generated content," Sijanta explains.

Working with influencers is just as important as curating fan content. "We concentrate on themes that are attractive and relevant to our target groups. That way we can send out our messages excitingly packaged." The strategy has certainly paid off but the social media space is fast-moving and we can't wait to see what they come up with next to keep the momentum going.
