AMG GLE 63 Coupe

Segment

The four-door coupe is now pretty much a normal thing for German carmakers, and now we're also seeing even more four-door crossovers being called coupes, just in case things weren't ridiculous enough already. The Mercedes-Benz GLE Coupe is a new offering in this niche, and a GLE63 AMG version cranks up the crazy. But for the more sensible buyers, there is of course the option of getting a fuel-efficient diesel engine.

But it is obviously the AMG version which is the most exciting, coming as it does with a 5.5-liter twin-turbo V8 producing 585 horsepower. 0-62 mph comes up in 4.2 seconds, certainly a respectable figure for something so truck-ish. But the thing you need to know about that 0-62 time is that it is the same as that of the new BMW X6 M. This is obviously going to be the vehicle's closest competitor, and although we don't have pricing information yet, we're very much expecting it to be nearly as close as the performance figures. We'll be interested to see how many sales Mercedes is able to steal with it.
