An agreement is already in place between Aston Martin and Mercedes-AMG with the latter to build new V8s for the next-gen Vantage, while a recent report suggested the new Aston SUV could borrow the Mercedes GL platform. Does the German carmaker have a long-term plan here? According to Autocar, Mercedes chief Dieter Zetsche has not ruled out the possibility that Mercedes could one day buy out Aston Martin.
Mercedes-benz already owns five percent of the UK firm and has admitted that it wants to expand the relationship. When asked to comment on the growing speculation, the Benz boss was giving nothing away, but did not rule out the possibility either, simply saying: “This is a fantastic brand, and we are willing to support its further development.”
