Only a concept for now, but there’s a demand for caravanning (in Europe).
Now that the Mercedes-Benz X-Class pickup truck has arrived, it's time to start modifying it for long road trips. Mercedes-Benz Vans has just revealed several X-Class concepts at the Caravan, Motor, Touristik (CMT) show in Germany. The mods are from Tischer and VanEssa mobilcamping and, if you like caravanning around Europe and want to do so in an X-Class, then, well, you're in luck today. The camper from Tischer offers a comfortable sleeping system in an alcove with plenty of headroom, and even a kitchen with a 3-burner gas stove and three seats.
Those seats can also be converted into a second bed. The integrated bathroom, complete with a fold-away wash basin and swiveling toilet, even has enough room to take a shower. The VanEssa camper is a heavy-duty pull-out module that comes with a fully equipped kitchen, and a pull-out module for additional space. As long as you don't need the truck's bed, this module is pretty handy. The load compartment is protected with a cover made out of yacht-deck-look wood that is also water resistant. Also on display are X-Class Marco Polo Editions, featured in mountain crystal white metallic, silver metallic, and flint gray metallic.
All include a new sound system with nine speakers and a Jehnert sound system that offers a choice of two sound set-ups, supposedly ideal for caravanning. Pricing for the Marco Polo Editions was not announced, nor was a production time table for the van concept additions.
