There was plenty of commotion over at the Mercedes booth during the 2016 LA Auto Show and while many of the crowd's oohs and aahs had something to do with leather wrapped interiors, it was the massive horsepower figures that did the trick for us. The Mercedes-Maybach S 650 convertible kicked things off, but its spotlight was promptly stolen when attention shifted towards the AMG E63 on display. While the Maybach 650's good looks had many craning their necks for a better view, the E63 snapped them off entirely.

The new Mercedes-AMG E 63 4MATIC+ is something rather special to see along with the Mercedes-AMG GT C Roadster and the Mercedes-Benz GLE 43.

The Mercedes-AMG E 63 S 4MATIC+ is the most powerful E-Class to date, fitted with a 4.0-liter V8 biturbo engine with an output of 603 hp, while the non S version has 571 hp. The S can hit 62 mph in just 3.5 seconds. The car uses a 9-speed sports transmission with a new wet-starting clutch for greater responsiveness and a redeveloped AMG Performance 4MATIC+ all-wheel drive system to help get to its impressive figures. "The new E 63 is the biggest development leap we've ever undertaken in a model change," said Tobias Moers, Chief Executive of Mercedes-AMG GmbH." U.S. show-goers also got to see the Mercedes-AMG GT R and the Smart fortwo electric drive in the metal.
