Not long after revealing a G-Class special edition based on the standard G 550 model, Mercedes will celebrate more than half a century of AMG history with a new special edition based on the 2022 Mercedes-AMG G63. The new G63 Edition 55 marks 55 years since AMG was founded, offering unique touches that aren't found on a normal G63. It seems odd for Mercedes to celebrate AMG's anniversary with an off-road machine rather than a sports car, but the press release for the Edition 55 mentions that "more birthday surprises will follow in the coming months."

Buyers can opt for either G Manufaktur Opalite White Bright paint (pictured here) or Obsidian Black Metallic. Regardless of color choice, the AMG emblems are coordinated. The 22-inch AMG cross-spoke design forged wheels come finished in matte Tantalum Grey with a high-sheen rim. All Edition 55s come equipped with the AMG Night Package and the AMG Night Package II, adding darker accents.

Special Edition 55 touches include a silver chrome fuel filler cap and a decal stretching across the door bottoms. Inside, stainless steel interior trim contrasts well with the black/red leather. Illuminated red AMG lettering welcomes the driver on the door sills, with special "Edition 55" floor mats made from high-quality velour with red contrast stitching. Even the microfibre-wrapped steering wheel gets a "55" badge. The cabin is finished with matte carbon trim pieces, adding a more sporty vibe.

Mercedes says the Edition 55 package costs 17,850 Euro ($19,697), so we assume this package will not be available in the US due to a lack of pricing information. We hope other Edition 55 models will arrive stateside. If you live in Europe and want to buy one, that price also includes a customized AMG Indoor Car Cover made from tear-resistant synthetic fiber fabric. So if you value this special edition G-Wagen as a collectible rather than a daily driver, it can sit under the fancy cover.
