Mercedes E63 Is The Fastest Wagon Ever At The Nurburgring

Nurburgring / 3 Comments

We can't believe how fast the new E63 wagon is on track.

Even though this is something most people will never do with their cars, manufacturers like to go out and attempt lap records around the Nurburgring in Germany. This legendary track is globally known and provides bragging rights for the companies that conquer it in the quickest times. We recently witnessed the Porsche GT2 RS smash the production car record with a lap time of 6:47.3. The fastest AMG car to lap the ring was the GT R, which managed to get around in 7:10.92 with Christian Gebhardt from Sport Auto at the helm.

Even though Mercedes couldn't match the mighty GT2 RS's production car record, it was recently able to set a record for wagons. Sport Auto's Christian Gebhardt took the new E63 S wagon to the Green Hell and managed a time of 7:45.19. That's faster than the old 911 GT2, Gallardo Superleggera and Ferrari 599.

This lap time may not be that impressive when you consider that cars like the Alfa Romeo Giula Quadrifoglio and Honda Civic Type R are quicker, but it is still an impressive lap time for such a heavy car. The E63 S wagon weighs in at around 4,700 pounds, but is able to set such a blistering time thanks to its 612 hp 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 and AWD. If you're in the market for the fastest Nurburgring missile that can also haul the whole family in comfort, this is the car for you.
