Mercedes G-Class Gets Awesome Off-Road Upgrades

Tuning / Comments

It's nice to see a tuner do something other than fit blingy wheels and silly body kits.

The Mercedes-Benz G-Class is a brilliant off-roader and always has been, but lately, it must feel like an opera singer forced to rap. See, most buyers couldn't care less about the SUV's trail-conquering abilities. Instead, they care about the image of the vehicle as a status symbol. Worse still, some feel the need to dress the G-Class in a clown suit, tuning it with stupid body kits and unnecessary accessories. Other tuners will give the boxy brute obscene power, but almost none have tapped into the vehicle's true calling. Luckily, Delta4x4 is not your average tuner, and it knows how to extract the best from the G-Class.

To that end, the tuning package begins with a two-inch raise courtesy of new suspension from the specialists at Bilstein. Alternatively, a proper two-inch body lift kit is also offered. Like so many other packages, this one includes wider wheel arches, but here, they serve a proper purpose. They widen the body by 3.1 inches to allow the fitment of upgraded aftermarket wheels and tires, the latter of which can be supplied by Yokohama, Cooper, or Mickey Thompson. A matte black roof rack and a stainless steel nudge bar in the same finish (with new lighting options) are also a part of the package, but the benefits of this upgrade are most evident when you look at the data.

Wheels start at 18 inches in size, but 20s are available too, and for those who want a bit of bling, split wheels are available too. For those who want the absolute maximum ground clearance of up to 11.4 inches, 22-inch and even 23-inch wheels can be fitted, with massive 305-width rubber accompanying the latter. The approach and departure angles have been increased to around 35 degrees at each end, making this a truly beneficial package to consider if you're serious about overlanding. Pricing has not been announced, but any tuning package offered for the legendary G-Class is unlikely to be cheap.
