Mercedes Has Given the Green Light for a Production-Spec G63 AMG 4x4

Just like the 6x6, only with two less wheels and still totally awesome.

Earlier this month our spy photographers snapped some images of a supposed Mercedes-Benz AMG G63 4x4 prototype. Consider it a four-wheel version of that earth crushing G63 6x6. And now it’s heading to production, according to a new report coming from Car and Driver. Compared to the so-called "base" G63 AMG, the 4x4 variant, already dubbed the "Green Monster," features a significantly increased ride height, roof-mounted auxiliary lights and huge off-road wheels featuring five-spoke alloys.

AMG’s 5.5-liter twin-turbo V8 and its 544 horsepower and 560 lb-ft of torque will come standard. Power will be distributed to all four wheels via a seven-speed G-tronic automatic gearbox. Unlike the 6x6, the upcoming G63 4x4 will more than likely be available to US buyers – for a price. Expect it to cost somewhere in the neighborhood of $200,000. An official launch date hasn’t been announced, but a 2015 debut is very likely.
