Surviving the zombie apocalypse in style.
Only yesterday we reported Mercedes had commenced production of the S-Class Guard, and now we have official images and details of the armored luxury sedan. According to the carmaker, the Mercedes S600 Guard is the world's first car "comprehensively certified" for VR9 – the highest resistance class of ballistic protection. Protective components made from a special type of steel have been built into the spaces between the body and outer skin, while splinter protection comes from heat-resistant synthetic fibers known as aramide and polyethylene components.
Polycarbonate coats the inside of all the car's glass areas, which also come with a laminated structure. There are no significant visual changes between the S600 Guard and the stock car, while power comes from the same 6.0-liter twin-turbo V12 rated at 530 hp and 612 lb-ft of torque. The armored S-Class comes as a four- or five-seater with a 350-liter trunk as well as a raft of cool guard-specific gear including opaque roller blinds, hydraulic side windows, a panic alarm system, a special rear cooling compartment, heated windows and an emergency fresh air system.
