Mercedes will extend its new C-Class range with a performance-focused C450 AMG Sport that will bridge the gap between the new C400 and upcoming C63 AMG. That's according to Autocar who report that power will come from an upgraded variant of the carmaker's 3.0-liter V6. Mercedes sources say output will be upped from 333 to 367 horsepower in order to give the model a chance against the Audi S4 and BMW's soon-to-be-released M-Performance 3 Series.

Although not a full-fledged AMG model, the C450 Sport will benefit from a host of AMG-developed parts such as a sport suspension, AMG Line aero kit, AMG alloys and interior upgrades. Unlike the C63 AMG that will be offered solely with rear-wheel-drive, the C450 AMG Sport will be sold in both rear-wheel-drive and four-wheel-drive configurations.
