Mercedes Previews New S-Class with Sculpture Display

/ Comments

Bas-relief sculptures and light displays to hint at the shape of the next flagship sedan from Mercedes-Benz at upcoming Paris Auto Show.

BMW, Audi, Lexus and Jaguar have all replaced their full-size luxury sedans in the past few years, but the current Mercedes-Benz S-Class has been on the market since 2005. That makes it seven years old now, but the German automaker is gearing up to replace its flagship sedan, and to give us a hint at what to expect, it has previewed the new four-door's styling in a series of sculptures. Called "Aesthetics S", the series will be displayed at the Paris Motor Show in a couple of weeks.

It consists of both physical sculptures and light displays, all of which combine to preview the silhouette of the new S-Class. The display also includes tributes to S sedans past, but if your travel plans don't include a trip to Paris in the coming month, we've got a range of the sculptures for you right here. Commenting on the unique initiative, Mercedes' head designer Gorden Wagener noted that "The Mercedes-Benz S-Class has always impressed with its timeless design, which has existed for decades and has always pointed the way ahead. The sculpture is a continuation of this, and sets the scene for the development of a new S-Class."
