The Mercedes-Benz G-Class is more popular than ever as the orders keep piling up in the US and overseas markets. That's not going to change anytime soon. Not long ago, there were some false rumors claiming the G-Class is sold out until 2024. That's obviously very good news for buyers and now there's a new G-Class special edition they can fight over.

Introducing the G-Class Edition 550, limited to only 200 examples for America. Available in three exterior colors, Jupiter Red, Arabian Grey, and Moonlight White, the hues are normally reserved for the German automaker's Manufaktur bespoke division. Aside from the new colors, this limited-run G-Class further receives new badging and several interior enhancements.

There's two-tone Nappa leather upholstery with beautiful diamond stitching, active multi-contour front seats with active side bolsters, and plenty of carbon fiber trim throughout the cabin. There are also "1 of 200" and "Edition 550" stamps on the front passenger handlebar.

Under the hood, there's the familiar 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 with 416 horsepower and 450 lb-ft of torque. Power is routed through a nine-speed automatic transmission that's paired to a two-speed transfer case.

This is not the AMG version but rather an enhanced G 550 "base model." As of this writing, Mercedes has not released official pricing or when it'll begin accepting orders.

Anyone interested is highly advised not to wait and contact their local Mercedes dealer. There are some interesting times ahead for the second-generation G-Class. A refresh is supposedly in the works, as is the next 4x4 Squared. What's most exciting is the arrival of the fully electrified version, called the EQG, due in 2024.

The previously revealed concept version is said to very closely resemble the production model. It might look like a G-Class, but the EQG's ultimate test will be how it performs off-road and in other challenging situations. The G-Class is famous for its go-anywhere capabilities as well as its style and luxury interior. The EQG must replicate that and then some.
