Mercedes S600 Bows in Detroit as Brand's Halo Sedan

Range-topping Benz is a Maybach in all but name.

Debuting in Detroit, the new S600 is now the top-of-the-line Mercedes. With Maybach out of the equation, the long wheelbase S600 with its massive bling front grille aims to entice the well-healed one percent that require a welcome change from Bentley and Rolls-Royce. Beyond the menacing chromed-out fascia lay a 6.0-liter twin-turbo V12 rated at 523 horsepower and 612 pound-feet of torque.

Cutting edge tech includes Magic Body Control that scans the road ahead to ensure the ride is smooth as possible and a Driving Assistance Plus package, which helps keep the car in lane and stop itself at speeds up to 12 mph. This is the pinnacle of automotive excellence, after all. It also represents the 'Essence of Luxury,' which is most apparent in the cabin. There's a touchpad that recognizes various languages, voice control and a head-up display inspired by a jet fighter. Rear passengers sit in reclining seats while enjoying chilled drinks stored in the refrigerator.
