Flagship two-door makes 585 horsepower and sprints from 0-62 mph in 3.9 seconds.
Mercedes-Benz's brand-new S Class coupe was revealed earlier this month at the Geneva Motor Show. With car shows coming thick and fat, today, the massive, luxurious two-door flagship gets its high-performance brother from the AMG division ahead of its NYC debut. The S63 offers "dominance and sensual purity" that allow it to deliver "effortlessly superior sportiness," according to the company. The AMG coupe will receive the BlueDIRECT AMG 5.5-liter twin-turbo V8 engine, producing 585 horsepower and 664 lb-ft of torque.
Compared to the outgoing CL63 AMG coupe, the S63 adds 41hp and 74 lb-ft of torque. Mercedes promises 0-62 mph times of 3.9 to 4.3 seconds (depending on the model), reaching an electronically-limited top-speed of 155 mph. Incorporating Benz's Lightweight Performance strategy, the AMG utilizes a lithium-ion battery, AMG forged light-alloy wheels and high-performance composite braking system. The entire exterior skin and front-end body are made of aluminum. AMG signature detailing includes a new grille, air-ducting system, chrome inserts and more.
The S63 AMG comes in two models: base and 4MATIC, with the latter gaining AMG's all-wheel drive system. Both will have AMG sports exhausts with automatic flaps providing bespoke sounds. They will also benefit from a 7-speed MCT sport transmission with personal configuration. Inside, a 3-spoke AMG steering wheel, aluminum shift paddles and an AMG instrument cluster with high-res TFT color display set the car apart from its regular S Class coupe counterpart. The S63 AMG coupe will be on display at the New York Auto Show in April, with an ultimate, exclusive 'Edition 1' expected one year later.
