The Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV has been in development for some time now, but last month we learned that the new, all-electric crossover would be revealed alongside the EQE this year. We've already had a look at the magnificent cabin of the EQS SUV, but now Mercedes has given us a glimpse of what to expect from the exterior design thanks to a shadowy teaser.

With this, the taller, more spacious version of the Mercedes-Benz EQS sedan's reveal date has also been revealed. In fact, it will be unveiled later this month on Tuesday, April 19 at 12 PM EST.

The EQS SUV is the German automaker's third model based on its new modular architecture for premium and luxury EVs and is essentially a more technologically advanced version of the combustion-powered Mercedes-Benz GLE. Mercedes says that it "combines the progressive design and comfort of the EQS [sedan] with the space and versatility of the popular SUV concept." As expected, this too will be an all-wheel-drive vehicle, except that the SUV will add "an intelligent off-road driving program" to maximize versatility. Space for seven will be provided, so this is sure to be a popular alternative to the Tesla Model Y. However, we wouldn't bank on the Merc being cheaper; the EQS Sedan costs more than Tesla's fastest version of the range-topping Model S.

We can expect the EQS SUV to borrow the 56-inch Hyperscreen from its sedan counterpart and the addition of video streaming on any of the media screens on the car. Mercedes says that this feature will include "camera-based blocking logic" to ensure that the driver can't get distracted by a view of these screens while driving.

Originally, the EQS SUV was intended for reveal at this month's Beijing Auto Show, but that was postponed yesterday following the resurgence of the coronavirus in the region. Mercedes will therefore be revealing the new EV online via its website. So save the date for April 19 when we'll bring you all the promises and performance specs of the new EQS.
