Upping production from 185,000 to 300,000 units.
Following a five-year and $2.4 billion investment in its Tuscaloosa, Alabama plant, Mercedes-Benz has announced that its upcoming GLE coupe, previously known as the ML Coupe or MLC, will help make the American factory into one of the company's largest facilities in the world. Based on the Concept Coupe SUV that was revealed earlier this year at the Beijing Motor Show, the GLE Coupe will feature a tweaked design – including new bumpers, larger mirrors and new head and taillights.
Rivalling the BMW X6 and expected future competition from Audi, the GLE will offer everything from six-cylinder gasoline and diesel engines to V8 and V12 monsters in the GLE 63 AMG Coupe and GLE 65 AMG Coupe. The addition of the GLE will bring the plant's production capabilities to 300,000 units per year.
