Mercedes to Create a Baby-G-Class with GLB Moniker

Will ride on the GLA’s platform with front or all-wheel drive.

Riding on the ongoing success of its mammoth G-Class SUV,Mercedes-Benz is planning to produce a smaller, baby version of the off-roader. Based on the GLA crossover platform, the SUV, codenamed X247 and expected to benamed the GLB-Class, will be offered in both front and 4Matic all-wheel drive. The latter will receive an all-terrain body kit, and both will ride on anextended-wheelbase version of the MFA platform, allowing the GLB to include threerows of seats.

The GLB is expected to be launched in 2019, and will receivea number of four-cylinder units from Mercedes, most likely a 2.0-liter diesel engineand a turbocharged 2.0-liter gasoline unit. An AMG version, the GLB45, is alsohighly likely.
