Mercedes-Benz has reacted to our post in typical haste by announcing full details and specs of its potent GLA45 AMG crossover. At the top of the GLA line-up, the compact SUV is motivated by the same 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder unit used in the A45 and CLA45 AMG models. That means 355 hp and 332 lb-ft of torque is sent to all four wheels via a DCT 7-speed transmission. 0-62 mph is quoted at 4.8 seconds, and top speed limited to 155 mph.

In line with a power upgrade, the GLA's chassis has been stiffened and retuned with a sports suspension, revised steering calibration, high-performance brakes, an AMG sports exhaust and 19-inch alloys. In addition to Manual, Sport and Controlled Efficiency modes, the GLA45 also boasts a Race Start function – essential for a luxury crossover. In case you're in any doubt this is an AMG model, the GLA45 wears a body kit, redesigned front grille, and bigger bumpers, while a host of add-ons include a carbon-fiber rear wing, 20-inch ten-spoke alloys and red-painted calipers.

Inside, bespoke touches include a leather-wrapped performance steering wheel, leather seats, an AMG instrument cluster, central color screen and carbon-fiber trim. Watch out for live shots of the GLA45 AMG from the Detroit Motor Show, where it will debut next week.
